“Jerry Garcia” Guitar Re-Build (part 5)
Under The Knife Again
The better part of a year has elapsed since the previous post about this (re)build, but fear not; it’s not that I’ve failed in updating you, dear Internet, but that I’ve failed to do anything further on this guitar at all. So much else happened during 2016 that little time remained for tinkering with guitars. I need clones.
I don’t think it got mentioned in any previous post, but the last thought I had about this guitar (and probably the reason that I stopped working on it) was that it needs its neck chopped off. Recall that it previously had its head chopped off – that was one of the first things I did when I began this revamp.
For one reason or another I never built any back-sweep into the neck. If there’s any angle there at all, it’s inverted… bowing inwards! Needless to say the action is horrible. I can JUST play it, but it’s not pleasant. Game over, you might think, and any sane person would likely agree, but I think I can see a way forward. Cue: the finest-bladed Japanese saw in town, and a ruthless attitude.
That’s it for now – just a brief update. Over the next few weeks I’ll get hold of a saw that fits the above description, and report on progress (along with pretty pix). Bye for now.
